My Initial Thoughts on “Ragebound”

I immediately thought of two particulars when I first heard about Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. First, the longevity of my controller was simply reduced. Second, will the renowned combination of pride and suffering that made Ninja Gaiden so enduring return in this new chapter? Ragebound doesn’t hold back after playing the game for hours on end and undergoing several rage-quits. It honours Ryu Hayabusa’s legacy in every way and is both beautiful and inhumane.
The Legacy of Ninja Gaiden — Why This Franchise Still Matters
For gamers who appreciate a challenge, Ninja Gaiden is not just a game—it’s a rite of passage. Its focus has always been on trying your patience and reflexes, from the NES days to the intense 3D redesigns. Ninja Gaiden is steadfast at a point when many games provide hand-holding tutorials: adapt or die. Ragebound builds on that tradition, but with a contemporary twist that honours both seasoned pros and brave upstarts.

Difficulty & Challenge — The Good Old Ninja Gaiden Pain
To put it clearly, Ragebound is tough. It’s “why-am-I-doing-this-to-myself” hard, not “oh-this-is-a-bit-tough” hard. That’s the point, though. You can learn something from every death. It felt like I had climbed the highest point in the world when, after 17 attempts, I finally defeated the twin-blade boss.Is it just? For the most part. Overall, it’s a skill-based punishment, although there are a few instances where the camera angles may confuse you. Just like how Ninja Gaiden ought to be.
Ragebound for New Players — Can Beginners Survive?
Ragebound will injure you if Ninja Gaiden is new to you. Yet, it also greets you with early levels that are slightly more forgiving. You’ll thank me later for selecting the Training Mode.

Pro Tip: Just as crucial as offence is defence. Dodge rolls are essential to staying alive.
Visuals, Music & Atmosphere — A Ninja’s Playground
Ragebound is a feast for the senses. Rooftops under a crimson sky, dark alleys backlit by flickering neon signs, and opposing designs that are both beautiful and terrible. The soundtrack perfectly synchronises with the commotion on screen, blasting you with wild excitement.
On multiple occasions, I found myself stopping to simply take in the battlefield. That’s how deep it is.
My Favourite (and Most Hated) Moments
My favourite part was fighting the Shadow Ronins on the rooftop. Fast, dramatic, and theatrical.
The sewer level is the most hated moment. I acknowledge the evil of whoever created that network of ambushes and traps.
Verdict — Is Ninja Gaiden Ragebound Worth Your Time (and Rage)?
Ragebound is a must-play if you love skill-based combat and high-octane arcade games and don’t mind several (dozen) retries. It’s fair, yet tough. rewarding but frustrating. I give it an excellent 9 out of 10.

Emotional damage is worth minus one point.
